the lamp works well and truly illuminates the whole room. It was extremely easy to put together. --simply by screwing the poles together and attach the base. lean and not the base is heavy enough for it not to tip over. does not come with a bulb, but to my knowledge, you can use a standard bulb. the shade is made of a hard plastic, semi-matte. the lamp loses a star because the cable is unpleasant. part shade and continues up to the base
